Humane Disposal of Cane Toads

Disposal of eggs, tadpoles, metamorphs and adult Cane Toads

1. Eggs should be simply removed from the water and placed in containers in the freezer. They can later be disposed of in the garbage.

2. Tadpoles can be removed with a net in your garden pond and placed in a plastic bag or container in the freezer. Removal of tadpoles from ponds in the natural environment should not be attempted unless a licensed expert is on hand, when they can be euthanased first before disposal.

3. Metamorphs can be collected and placed in containers in the freezer.

4. Adult cane toads can be placed in the freezer, which will euthanase them quite easily, but they will need to be kept there for more than a week afterwards and can then be buried. (NB. The odd one has been known to recover after removal from the freezer and thawing out even after 48 hours in the freezer!).
